FIRST LIGHT

So I had the urge to paint something larger with the knife and was itching to do another coastal scene. I try to stay away from the cliche' sort of stuff.... lighthouses, seagulls drifting over the surf..and one local landmark in particular because it has been sooo over done.... Haystack Rock (see below). It is probably the most photographed and painted subject on the entire Oregon coast where I was born. It is just about 6 miles away from our home and although people pay money for anything with its image on it I can't bring myself to paint it for that very reason.

So instead I painted one of the most photographed and painted subjects on the coast of Nova Scotia where my dad was born...Peggy's Cove. Go figure!
