                                Acrylic on linen 22x30"

As a follow up to the last piece, I took this in a more abstract, minimalist direction. The boat was actually sitting in absolutely calm water with the clouds and sky reflected. By the time I was finished, it took on an almost surreal, dreamlike quality.  These last two colorful paintings were good for my soul during the cold, gray, stormy days of winter here on the Oregon coast.

So here's how it ended up. I like it!  I'm off to start another boat.

progress report

After swiping away at it a bit's where it is now. I like the raw quality of the first progress photo (below) and I sort of hate to take this too far. But.... never letting common sense dictate what to do.... I have pressed on, and think I will try to make it a little more realistic. I'm scared now!

new boat

I worked and worked on a little painting of a clam digger till I got so exaperated I had to go kick the dog! Well.... I might have kicked the dog if I still had the old smell hound.  Not really. But  instead of throwing a fit,  I started a new piece. Nice and large (about 22x30 inches), just to get away from the little, tiny dailies. I get bogged down when I paint the little ones sometimes. Maybe it has to do with the little brushes? And I have to put on my reading glasses to see what I'm doing on those little 6x6" pieces. Glasses...I hate glasses!
I think I prefer to paint standing up too. I can take a couple swipes at a piece and then stand back. Anyway, I am posting progress reports on the larger piece.
I spent some time charcoaling in  the basic shape of the boat and then laid down the colors in the right areas with a large knife. Took a photo early on this time. I'll post some more tomorrow, so be sure to tune in!

Started a project today I've been holding back on for too long. One cold, sunny day a while back, I took 172 photos of our local golf course  with the idea that I might try doing a painting of each of the 18 holes. These are  the links at Gearhart Oregon....the oldest golf course west of the Rockies I'm told.
I picked one of the nicest holes to start with. This one has a  little water hazard which gives me a chance to do some reflections.
I started slapping the foundation colors on a 16 x30" canvas today with a broad knife  (Below)  and once I got the basics in place, I attacked it with a brush.  Looks to me like I have a chance at making something out of this if I don't overwork it. We'll see..

Seen Better Days

6"x6" acrylic on gessoboard.....$100SOLD

This is probably the last violin for a while. The poor old thing is missing the bridge but has nice 'Patina' from years of use. Time to move on for me.  Maybe something big...........
