KITE FESTIVAL

18x32" watercolor on paper

I spent today working on an entry for the Long Beach Washington kite festival. Long Beach is just across the Columbia river from us and they have a big festival every year in March or April.
This is watercolor...not my usual medium but it seemed appropriate for this. I
used to make quite a few woodcuts and I always liked the Japanese woodcut  depiction of the GREAT WAVE by Hokusai. I borrowed a little from him on this. My apologies to Hokusai.

  2. You're freaking awesome. I can't stop clicking to see the next painting. The one hanging above your sister's fireplace is really well done. But, not nearly as incredible as the stuff I've see this morning. Do you ever do requests?
    Your great nephew,

  3. Hi Nate
Thanks for the compliment. Better than money!!I think what's over Donna's fireplace was probably a differnt style ...can't remember exactly what it was.Maybe more realism? I've done a few requests, yes. Shoot me an idea... who knows what might come of it.
By the way, I see we both had similar responses to the big tsunami yesterday. I didn't know till then you are on the beach in Pacifica. We are ocean front here so we're pretty vulnerable. Thank God no wave hit.

  4. I was admiring your nonchalance. Janet gave me a slight tongue lashing for it. I noticed she was a little more lenient on you. And it isn't just this one. I love most of them. To be honest, there are only two or three of the fruit paintings I'm not absolutely gaga about. Other than those, all aces. We're between fifty to a hundred yards away from the water, but equally high above it. I was never afraid for us but it was a blessing for sure not to see one at all. I'll message you about the art.
