PEEP SWAY

I find it difficult to paint in this super loose style even though I like it. I catch myself overworking the piece which is not what I'm after. It may look like I painted this in 5 minutes but in reality there were only 5 good minutes. The rest of the time was one bad brushstroke after another. Each time I had to start over. Hope you like it.

  1. It was very clever of you to make this look easy when it was anything but. When mine are going from bad to worse they don't usually recover their composure!
I love your painting. Your little bird looks very lively, almost as if he's on a mission of derring-do. Is it a chickadee? I don't actually know what a chickadee is but I see a lot of them on the painting blogs. They are very cute.

  2. H Wendy- Derring-do! now there's a term you don't hear everyday!
Yep it's a chickadee. They are the most common bird in my trees here on Oregon.
I too don't usually manage to recover from a bad painting very well. Usually I work them to death and then never show them.
By the way.. I see you've got some children's books out there. I'm so jealous! I have one submitted right now to a publisher. Wish me luck.

  3. The very best of luck to you with your children's book Brian. Can I ask what it is about - or is it very secret squirrel at the moment?

  4. Of course it's all very top secret. If the competition ever got their hands on it, who knows what might happen?! "What Woofie Wants" is the title. It's a picture book about a big, dumb chocolate Lab who only wants one thing....to be with the kids he loves. Comical pictures that make wee ones giggle and a heart-warming message.
    we're keeping our fingers crossed.

  5. Your book sounds luverly! I can see you are a man of many creative talents so I'm sure your book will be in with a very good chance. I hope you hear back from them soon. I hope you will post any new developments!! I also have a new picture book being pitched to a publisher. We can bite our nails together in cyber space!
