I have this old set of about 15 leather bound books that have so much character.

Seems a little too traditional but what the heck! The pipe is one of my old man's. He was quite the pipe smoker at one time and collected a bunch... the reading glasses are mine.

MINUS TIDE

Beautiful weather the last couple of days and low tides. The surf was small so the clams were showing. I wasn't digging so I tried to get some photos of the diggers. They looked suspiciously at me as I walked toward them with my camera and no shovel. I could just hear them muttering to themselves  "stupid tourist!"

Clam digging is deffinitely not a spectator sport.

Okay I'm painting again. I had planned to paint a can of tomato soup and a can of tuna together but when I got to the cupboard ...no tuna! But this gave me a chance to use the pan along with the can of soup. Reflections are always good. I like this one.

Surf Perch

This was a really quick one of a couple red tailed surf perch I sometime catch right out in front of our house.  I do a lot of fishing but very little catching. Lots of color in a silver fish when you look closely. We actually have a black kitchen countertop and these yellow plates

Seems every time I paint pears I come up with a different style mostly based on how long I intend to spend on the piece. I hate to spend too long on these little paintings. Maybe that's a good thing. You can't say this one looks over-worked!

My wife brought home some sunflowers about a week ago. Their heads are starting to droop a little so I thought I 'd better paint them before they wilted completely. I'm not much for painting flowers but hey...what the heck. It's something I can do in the studio while sitting next to the fire. I'm turning into an old dog who just wants to lay by the fire when the weather turns cold. By the way..... I hope you know you can click on these images to see a larger version.

She's been at it for a long, long time and is well respected in the art world. While I was watering her and husband Mike's garden last week I picked up a couple of Asian pears that had dropped from their tree. Delicious! and beautiful. They actually have little spots all over them which I didn't add here but I liked this as it is so...

Okay... I'm back painting. I saw some 60's style art a few days ago and it reminded me that I really enjoyed painting in a more contemporary style. I used to paint a lot of pots and other vessels in this more fun style. Some of it borrowed from Michele Russo's way of painting...a bit primative and stick-like with lots of angles, and a little from my friend Carol Riley's style ( I got to water her greenhouse and garden last week while she was in France and Forence). Carol always tips and tilts her subjects giving some animation to the piece. She's a great colorist and all of her pieces make people happy.
