PRAIRIE REFLECTIONS

8"x10" acrylic on cradled wood panel   SOLD
I'm working on some pieces for a show at Riversea Gallery  in Astoria Or. coming up on the 14th.The theme is 'Objects of Desire'. I know a lot of people (myself included) wish they had one of these Airstream Bambis. I may never own one but I enjoy painting them. The reflective surface is always fun.

UP FOR AIR

24"x24" oil on panel
Well, this is off in another direction (again).  I can't help exploring. When you paint every day, you have to break up the routine and try things. Underwater light looked tempting. I changed the swimsuit several times (the color, that is) I tried white, pink, purple, and black before settling on this blue. My wife accused me of painting a nude at first. I explained it was a white swimsuit. She didn't seem completely convinced and wanted to know who the model was.....so I moved on to the other colors.

FOREST LIGHT

Unusual colors for me. And the 1st piece without figures in quite a while.

SUMMERTIME1

48"x72" oil on panel

Another really large one. I think the studio shot conveys the color more accurately. Inspired by a film by Vrinda Webb.

STREET LIFE

36"x48" oil on cradled wood panel
I put the finishing touches on this one today. Could use a better way to shoot these larger pieces. There is so much lacking in the photos. Neither of these shots are correct- but you get the idea.

CATCH THAT FEELIN'

16x20x1" acrylic on cradled wood panel SOLD
These guys were skim-boarding on one of the best days we had all summer. The light was fantastic! and part of being out there is just the feeling of being at the edge of the surf in the sun with the roar of the waves and the sparkle and the sand and the gulls. That's what I was trying to catch.

FIRST TIME

44x36 inch oil on canvas
I finally finished this today. It's been near completion for almost 3 months! I just couldn't make it happen. today it happened. I plan to submit it to the fall show at the Portland Art Museum rental sales gallery in a couple of days unless someone decides they can't live without it in which case....lets talk.

NEW STUFF

12x12" acrylic on cradled wood panel SOLD
I was invited to participate in the Small Works Show at the HOWARD/MANDVILLE GALLERY in Kirkland Washington a few months ago. The deadline is the 10th of this month to submit images for the catalog. I've been procrastinating long enough and I finally got busy on my entry. Here's the first of 2. Thsi is from a photo I took this summer. You may recognize the figures as the same subjects I painted earlier. Their colorful swimsuits and buckets were hard to pass up so I took a lot of pics of them that day.

ROTHKO REVISITED

12 x 12" acrylic on wood panel SOLD
Wow! It's been so long since I posted I almost forgot my password! I've not done much painting in the last 2 months. Trying to enjoy a 'staycation' with my wife and 2 of my kids home from college. I admit I was getting pretty fidgety not going to the studio and working. But at the same time I got that old "I'll never paint again" feeling. Scary! So, I have an invitational exhibit in a few days at the Cannon Beach Arts Association  gallery and I needed to get a  piece done for it. This is it. A little dark maybe and I'm afraid it makes clear my mixed feelings about where I'm going next. But hey....it's art and it is an expression of my soul.
